Criminal cases against millers if involved in paddy procurement: AP Civil supplies minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao

By MS Samdani

Andhra Pradesh civil supplies minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao has warned of serious consequences if someone tries to politicize the issue of paddy procurement.
He said that the state government is taking all possible measures to procure the entire paddy produced by the farmers through Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs). Minister reviewed the arrangements with the officials at Tanuku municipal office on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, minister said that the government has set the stage ready for payment of dues to the farmers within 21 days of procurement. “Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had directed the department not to delay the payments to the farmers after procurement. We will clear all the dues within 21 days of purchase,” said Karumuri.

He said that the officials should be proactive in addressing the grievances of the farmers if any and ensure that every grain is procured from the farmers.

Minister said that there was no role for the millers to play in the procurement of paddy and hence officials should take adequate measures to keep the rice millers away from the process. He said that the officials of concerned RBK would be taken to task if any miller is found involved in the procurement. He appealed to the farmers not to go for distress sale anywhere in the state as they have made elaborate arrangements for procurement of paddy. “We will pay the amount not only for paddy but also for gunny bags and hamali charges. The entire amount will be directly credited into the farmers’ account. This system has been introduced from the current procurement season to avoid malpractices in payment of gunny bag and hamali charges,” said Karumuri.
