Bengaluru: 8 held with 35L in rice-pulling cheating case
Central Crime Branch sleuths nabbed eight people on charges of cheating the public by selling rice-pulling vessels and recovered Rs 35 lakh from them. The accused were operating from several 5-star hotels and targeting high-net-worth individuals.
CCB identified the accused as Rajesh, Mohammad Ghouse Pasha, Stephan, Sahil, Srinivas, Vikas, Kumar and others. They would lure customers by showing pictures of the vessels and then invite them to plush hotels. At the hotels, the accused talked of the total value of the vessels, promising they would make the customers richer. Later they would start negotiating the price after quoting Rs 1 crore per vessel.

They would demand advance payment of Rs 5 lakh and, subsequently, start collecting money citing some reason or another. In the case being probed by CCB following a tip-off from one of the victims, the latter had paid Rs 35 lakh in several instalments. A senior police officer said the gang would avoid the victims after collecting money by changing their mobile numbers.
