Bengal teacher job scam: Probe agency ED searches rice mills in state

Financial probe agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday morning began conducting search operations at rice mills located in at least four places in West Bengal’s Nadia district in connection with their ongoing investigation into the jobs scam, an officer said.

Central security forces are guarding the mills at Shantipur, Dhubulia, Ranaghat, and Krishnanagar, where search operations are underway.

“A good amount of money amassed from the jobs scam has been invested in rice mills. We have documents to prove that. Today’s raids are in this connection,” the ED officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday questioned Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira Narula Banerjee in connection with the West Bengal teacher’s recruitment scam case. According to sources, Rujira reached the ED office in Kolkata’s CGO Complex before 11 am.

It was the first time that the ED asked Rujira to appear for questioning in the teachers’ recruitment scam case. Earlier, Rujira was summoned in the coal smuggling case.
