Uttarkashi’s red rice gets 2nd spot in ODOP Awards

The district has achieved the distinction of securing the first runner-up position in the national-level One District One Product (ODOP) Awards for 2023 in the agriculture category, acknowledging the district’s efforts in cultivating ‘red rice’ .

Over 500 districts across the nation participated in the award ceremony, which was held as a part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Utsav’ in New Delhi on Wednesday.

J P Tiwari, Uttarkashi chief agriculture officer said, “The high-value red rice is native to Uttarkashi and is mainly cultivated across 2800 hectares in Purola, Mori, and Naugaon regions. We had introduced the crop in 40 villages across Bhatwari, Dunda and Chinyalisaur blocks. Abhyudaya Kotnala
