After Karnataka, Jharkhand government has raised concerns over the FCI not giving rice to states under open market sale. After the meeting with an eight-member team of NITI Ayog, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren demanded that the centre should look into the issue.

The Centre has a fixed quota for beneficiaries as part of the National Food Security Mission. But, more beneficiaries need subsidised ration in the state. The state government is giving subsidised ration to an additional 20 lakh beneficiaries under green card category,” Soren said.

As per a source in Jharkhand government, the state has 2.6 cr beneficiaries covered under National Food Security Act and for that the central government provides 5 kg rice/wheat per person per month. Due to organic growth of the families, there are an additional 6-7 L families meaning approximately 20 L additional beneficiaries,” the source said.
