Karnal millers urge FCI to allow unloading of custom-milled rice

Rice millers of the district showed up at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) office here today, alleging that due to the strike by the corporation’s employees, their vehicles carrying custom-milled rice (CMR) were not being allowed to unload at the FCI godown.

The millers claimed that due to the delay in unloading, they would become defaulters as the last date for the CMR delivery was July 31. Later, they met Mukul Kumar, Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, in Chandigarh and urged him to resolve their problem.

As per the millers, the issue between the rice millers of Yamunanagar district and Karnal FCI employees had led to the strike, which started on Sunday after the registration of an FIR against a few of the employees.

Saurabh Gupta, president of the Karnal Rice Millers Association, said, “We are worried that if the strike continues, we will not be able to deliver our CMR and will be declared defaulters, which will also affect our business.” “We have also requested the Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, to ask the officials concerned to aid us in unloading CMR,” he said. Amitabh Kumar, Area Manager, FCI, Karnal, was not available for comment despite several attempts.
