Bihar: Substandard rice in godowns irks DM

Saran DM Aman Samir on Friday asked the officials concerned to ensure that the rice quality in all 17 targeted public distribution system (PDS) godowns meets standards. He warned that any future complaints about substandard rice would lead to action against the assistant general manager of the godown concerned.

In a recent meeting, the DM reviewed concerns raised by the dealers about substandard rice and the non-payment of February’s margin money. He instructed the district manager of the State Food Corporation to assess the quality of rice in all godowns within a month, report on any substandard rice and ensure its replacement with quality rice. The district supply officers were tasked with forming a team, including sub-divisional and marketing officers, to oversee the quality of stored rice.

The meeting also resolved to compile a list of ration card holders who have not collected rations in the past year and initiate cancellation procedures. Further, of the 113,763 online applications for new ration cards, 82,376 have been processed. The DM directed action on the remaining 31,387 applications within the next week.
