Madhya Pradesh : Another bogus paddy ‘scam’ unearthed in Rewa

After a paddy procurement scam at Sohagi in Rewa, where paddy worth Rs 1.83 crore was procured only on paper, another bogus procurement scam has surfaced at Semariya in the same district, involving paddy worth around Rs 1.5 crore.

Police have registered a case against three accused and arrested two of them. The recent scam took place at Hinauta Number 2, a procurement centre under Semariya police station. Based on a report by department officials, police registered a case and launched an investigation.

“As per the report, around 5,000 quintals of paddy was not procured but shown as procured in the records. So far, we have registered a case against three accused and arrested two of them, including Gajendra Singh, 29, and Satyarth Pathak, 31. The main accused is yet to be arrested,” Semariya police station in-charge Shringesh Rajput told TOI.

“Though the matter surfaced on time, payments against these bogus procurements have not been released, thus saving government revenue,” he added.Earlier, a similar scam was detected during the inspection of Sewa Shahkari Samiti Sohagi Number 1 in Rewa district, where 5,146 quintals of paddy was shown as procured only on paper.
