Three people were detained under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act (PMSECA) for smuggling 14.3 tonnes of ration rice on January 18.
Dharmapuri district collector R Sadheesh issued their detention orders on Sunday, following recommendations from R Vadivel, Salem range DSP of the Civil Supplies-CID, who had apprehended the smugglers.
Those detained under the act are A Syed Moula, 44, from Shoolagiri, G Manivannan, 38, from Boganapalli, both from Krishnagiri district, and K Muthu, 45, from Madurai district. They were arrested in Dharmapuri when they were smuggling ration rice to Karnataka.
