Lakshadweep Admin Begins Direct Transport Of PDS Rice To All 10 Islands

The Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Lakshadweep Administration has initiated a significant reform by transporting PDS rice directly from Mangalore to all the 10 inhabited islands of Lakshadweep.Earlier, PDS rice from Mangalore was transported to Androth Island in Lakshadweep. Subsequently, from this central collection point, the PDS rice was then distributed to the other 9 inhabited islands of Lakshadweep. This process was cumbersome, and it resulted in considerable escalation in cost and transit duration of transport, along with need for additional storage facilities in Androth Island, an official statement said.”Lakshadweep Administration–following the Prime Minister’s principle of “Perform, Reform and Transform” and under the guidance of Administrator of Lakshadweep Praful Patel–made a proposal to FCI to start direct transport of PDS rice from Mangalore to all the Inhabited Islands of Lakshadweep. FCI did the needful in this regard and approved to select a suitable agency for direct transport of PDS rice from Mangalore to all the Inhabited Islands,” the statement said.It further said that this single measure will result in huge cost and time savings for the government, coupled with improving the efficiency of timely transport and delivery of PDS rice to the islands.
