Telangana: Rice millers not toeing TGCSC norms to be blacklisted

The Telangana State Civil Supplies Corporation (TGCSC) is likely to receive an order for 10 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of rice from abroad. The corporation has further received an order for 50 LMT of rice from the FCI but officials say they are ready to deliver up to 80 lakh metric tonnes.

In a series of steps taken to avoid shortage of space for storing rice, the TGCSC has taken go downs from the state warehousing corporation to store 40 LMT. This will help it keep the custom milled rice taken from the millers and help avoid disposing the stock in the open market.

Millers were supposed to pay 25 per cent as fine in addition to the MSP (minimum support price) at which paddy is procured from farmers in case of failure to deliver stocks in time. Some unscrupulous millers had earned huge profits by selling rice in the open market at double the rates of MSP. Lack of storage space had led to this manipulation, said officials.

All those millers who do not cooperate with the corporation in delivering the custom-milled rice on time will be blacklisted, officials said.
