Madhya Pradesh : Rain damages over 200 metric tonne paddy in Rewa, 4 co-op societies get notices
Four co-operative societies were issued notices after more than 90,000 metric tonne of paddy that was procured and kept at society-level procurement centres got wet due to unseasonal rain in Rewa district.Rewa collector Pratibha Pal said, “Paddy between 150 and 200 metric tonne got wet and notices have been issued to four co-operative societies in this regard. Appropriate arrangements for protecting the paddy that was procured and is yet to be transported have been made.”
There are a total of 93 procurement centres in Rewa district. Of them, 50 centres are made at co-operative societies, while the remaining centres have been made at godowns. On Saturday, it rained at several places in Rewa, and around 93,000 metric tonnes of paddy was kept at society-level procurement centres. They were not transported to godowns. Though instructions were issued and preparations were made to ensure that the paddy did not get damage in the rain, it is estimated that between 150 metric tonne and 200 metric tonne got wet in the rain.
Earlier on Friday, govt had issued instructions to all commissioners and collectors for speedy transportation of the paddy that was kept at the procurement centres. Orders were also issued that procurement would not be done between Dec 30 and Jan 1 to ensure that all the procured paddy is deposited at the godowns.
