Enough rice, wheat stocks for emergency

Prices of essential food supplies remain stable despite ongoing tensions in West Asia, with adequate stocks of foodgrain, pulses, edible oils and sugar available, the government said Monday.

The consumer affairs ministry said buffer stocks of rice and wheat are sufficient to meet Public Distribution System requirements and any emergency needs under the National Food Security Act. The FCI is ready to release additional stocks under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) to stabilise prices, if required, it said.
