Govt. to organise workshop on online procurement in UP

The online procurement platform Government e-Marketplace (GeM) will be organizing Buyer-Seller Workshops in Uttar Pradesh from 31 August 2023 to enhance the understanding of GeM’s functionalities among buyers and sellers in the state, and to provide a platform to address any queries or concerns they may have. The ministry of commerce and industry in a statement on Sunday said that the Buyer-Seller Workshops are a significant step towards ensuring accessibility and participation from the state.

“During the workshops, participants will receive comprehensive training on GeM’s features, registration processes, and various aspects of online procurement. GeM experts will be available to provide hands-on assistance and address specific concerns faced by buyers and sellers. The workshops will also facilitate networking opportunities, enabling participants to connect with potential partners and explore business collaborations,” the ministry stated.

By digitizing processes, using advanced analytics, GeM has brought in efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity in public procurement. It has brought together central and state government departments, agencies, and public sector enterprises, creating a level-playing field for buyers and sellers across the nation, the government claimed.

GeM has over 66,000 government buyer organizations and more than 58 lakh sellers and service providers offering a diverse range of goods and services.

The portal features over 11,000 product categories with more than 29 lakh listed products, as well as over 270 service categories with more than 2.5 lakh service offerings.

Based on various studies, the minimum savings on the platform are about 10%, which translates into a savings of over ₹ 30,000 crore worth of public money.
