Allcargo Terminals ramps up Kolkata CFS capacity to meet rising rice exports
Allcargo Terminals, an Allcargo Group company has ramped up the capacity of its Kolkata Container Freight Station (CFS) in West Bengal. Spread across 17 acres of operational land. Owing to the growing demand of rice export that is primarily originating from Asansol and Bardhaman districts in West Bengal, Kolkata CFS is equipped to handle over 1,200 TEUs of rice monthly, with its enhanced capacity, the CFS aims to achieve a throughput capacity growth of more than 25%.
The Kolkata CFS is one of six strategically located CFS of Allcargo Terminals and is situate near the Kolkata port, designed to align with production and consumption demand to optimise logistics costs. Equipped with reach stackers, the facility ensures faster loading, unloading, and container evacuation, supported by an adequate skilled workforce. Additionally, it provides customized services, including same-day, safe transit-to-port solutions for Kolkata and Haldia ports via container trailer trucks.
Commenting on the capacity augmentation, Nitin Behl, Regional Head- East & North India Allcargo Terminals Limited said, “We are witnessing a surge in rice exports following the recent lifting of the government’s ban, and we are fully prepared to meet the growing demand. Between October and November, we observed a significant growth of over 60% in TEU volumes, reflecting the increasing momentum in exports. We have ample capacity in terms of space, skilled workforce, advanced cargo-handling equipment, technology and infrastructure, as well as the availability of empty containers, to customize and serve customers demand efficiently”.
Allcargo Terminal CFSs leverages digital solutions to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. Through the innovative MyCFS app, it offers real-time track-and-trace capabilities for consignments, ensuring greater transparency and convenience. Plans are also underway to boost its operational capacity with the introduction of a conveyor belt system, further expediting cargo handling in Kolkata CFS.
