By Vadrevu Srinivas
Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has advised rice millers to purchase paddy from farmers soon, as they are suffering due to the rains. On Monday evening, he held a meeting with the rice millers’ association leaders and said the government would purchase every grain from the farmers.
Rice millers may purchase even the paddy with a moisture content of upto 22 per cent. The minister said that the government would give priority to the rice millers as well as the farmers. “We increased the target of 50,000 tonnes of Bondalu variety of paddy to Kakinada district, 1 lakh tonnes to BR Ambedkar Konaseema district, and to 80,000 tonnes to East Godavari district,” he noted.
MLAs like Jyothula Nehru, Vegulla Jogeswar Rao, N Ramakrishna Reddy and others said the farmers are facing trouble in selling their paddy and in coordinating with the officials in the matter. Due to the manual grain analysis of FCI, the rejection percentage is very high and the government should take steps for introducing automatic analysis.
Earlier, he visited the paddy fields where the paddy was inundated and damaged due to the recent rains at J Thimmapuram village in Peddapuram mandal and Chidiga village of Kakinada Rural mandal along with Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Nanaji.
