India lifts export ban on de-oiled rice bran

The Indian government has announced the removal of the export ban on de-oiled rice bran, a key ingredient in cattle feed. The ban had been in place since last year, but industry representatives repeatedly urged the authorities to reconsider in order to support processors and boost farmers’ income. From now on, exports of this product are permitted without restrictions.

In a separate notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated that India has exempted several agricultural goods, including dairy products, vegetables, rice, and wheat, from export restrictions when destined for Bhutan, a close neighbor and strategic partner. These exemptions will remain in effect until further notice, strengthening bilateral ties.

Additionally, the government approved a one-time export of 100 tons of wheat seed variety DWR-162 from the University of Dharwad to Indonesia through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). The shipment will be routed via Mangalore seaport, subject to certification by either the university or Karnataka’s Department of Agriculture.

While India continues to maintain restrictions on wheat and other strategic commodities, these exemptions reflect the government’s attempt to balance domestic food security with supporting farmers, processors, and international trade partners.
