Haryana: No entry for UP wheat in Karnal grain markets: DC’s stern warning

Taking note of the reports that wheat crop from Uttar Pradesh is arriving in the grain markets of the district even after erection of two checkpoints on Haryana-UP border, Deputy Commissioner Dr Anand Kumar Sharma directed officials to take stringent measures to prevent the arrival of wheat from Uttar Pradesh into Karnal.

Dr Sharma warned that if any arhtiya is found involved helping in bringing wheat from Uttar Pradesh, his license will be immediately cancelled. He further cautioned that Market Committees’ secretaries would also face action if carelessness is found.

“We are getting complaints that wheat is arriving from UP in the grain markets of Karnal, which is not acceptable. If any arhtiya is found involved in it, the license of his firm will be suspended. No wheat from other state should be allowed into Karnal’s grain markets under any circumstances,” he said, while chairing a meeting with SDMs and officials from procurement agencies at the Mini Secretariat.

Dr Sharma also instructed procurement agencies to expedite the lifting of wheat from grain markets. “Procurement across all the grain markets is going on smoothly. Officials have been instructed to ensure speedy lifting, so that farmers will not face difficulties in unloading their produce,” said the DC.

To ensure smooth operations, he directed an increase in the number of labourers at silos in Assandh and Gharaunda, so that loaded wheat can be quickly unloaded from vehicles and the lifting process remains uninterrupted.

He emphasised coordinated efforts among all officials to ensure farmers do not face any inconvenience.
