Uttam warns rice millers against recycling coarse rice

State civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy warned rice millers against recycling coarse rice. He instructed officials to lift rice from the millers as soon as possible.

The minister gave the instructions in a video conference with district managers, joint collectors and others, here on Wednesday.

Reddy asked them to see that millers defaulting on their CMR (custom milled rice) returns should be acted upon. He further asked them to brace up for procurement of kharif paddy in the 2024-25 season and ensure that godowns are ready for the paddy stocks when they arrive. He directed the officials to ensure that problems don’t arise in the transport of paddy.

Meanwhile, the minister lauded them for recovering pending paddy from the millers and asked them to continue their efforts.

“Defaulting millers should not be allocated any paddy. Rice should be given to FCI within the time limit. This would help in avoiding problems from banks for the debts taken from them. This way we can avoid the burden on the corporation,” he said.
