Tamil Nadu: More than 11,000kg of smuggled rice seized

Civil Supplies-CID of Tamil Nadu Police seized 11,600 kg of rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) outlets which were being smuggled to Karnataka.

Police intensified vehicle checks after receiving a tip about about smuggling of PDS rice along the Chennai-Bengaluru highway.

A team of CS-CID personnel from Tirupathur unit along with the Ambur police headed by Vellore deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nandakumar intercepted a truck.

On checking the vehicle, police found bags of rice and secured the truck driver G Pradeep Kumar, 43, a resident of Gudiyatham.

Investigations revealed that the PDS rice was sourced from Gudiyatham.

Police said that based on the information provided by the driver, police secured the man behind the operation, Suman.

The seized rice was sent to a govt godown.

The truck was on its way to a mill in Bangarupet, Karnataka, police said.
