Haryana: Slow wheat lifting leads to glut at Yamunanagar district’s grain market
By Shiv Kumar Sharma
Tardy wheat lifting has led to glut at grain markets in Yamunanagar district. As per the data of District Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Controller, the grain markets of the district have recorded an arrival of 2,80,878.19 MT of wheat till Saturday.
The procurement agencies have so far purchased 2,58,640 MT of wheat, of which 1,81,950 MT of wheat has been lifted, which is about 70.34 per cent.
The slow lifting of wheat is causing problems with space in grain markets and affecting the payment of farmers.
The farmers said they should be made payment of wheat within 24 hours after issuance of J-form to them by the arthiyas instead of after lifting of grains/wheat from grain markets and receipt of it at the storage site of the procurement agency.
“The government is making payment in our accounts through online transfer of funds after 72 hours of the receipt of grains at the storage site of the procurement agency. Following this procedure, we get payment even after one week or more. Our demand is that the payment should be released within 24 hours after issuance of J-form,” said Sanju Gundiana, district president of Bhartiya Kisan Union.
According to information, J-form is the sale receipt of a farmer’s agricultural produce in the grain market. It is issued to farmers by arthiyas and this form is an income proof for a farmer, who sells his crop.
Shiv Kumar Sandhala, founder of Haryana Anaj Mandi Arthiya Association, said the government should improve the lifting work of grains, so that farmers could get their payment on time.
“The arrival of wheat is increasing in grain markets. More space is required to put the grains, therefore the government agencies should speed up the lifting of wheat,” said Shiv Kumar Sandhala.
