Kerala seeks parboiled rice allocation from Centre ahead of Onam

Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob on Sunday urged the Centre to allocate parboiled rice to meet the state’s requirements during the Onam season.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the minister said a letter had been sent to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) seeking allocation of parboiled rice at the prescribed rate under the under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).

Jacob said he would also meet Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi to press the state’s demand.

The minister said the Managing Director of Supplyco had earlier written to the FCI seeking allocation of parboiled rice in view of the anticipated demand during the festival season.

During Onam, the state government steps up distribution of rice and other essential commodities through the public distribution system and Supplyco outlets, offering them at subsidised rates to consumers. PTI TBA TBA ROH
