OGEL and HWT Form Joint Venture to Advance Bioenergy and Circular Economy Projects
OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India Limited, and Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited (HWT), a subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Limited, have entered into a Joint Venture Agreement to develop integrated bioenergy and sustainable resource recovery projects across India. The collaboration marks a significant step toward expanding the country’s clean energy ecosystem and supporting national goals related to energy security, waste management, and circular economy development. Under the agreement, the two companies will establish a 50:50 joint venture entity that will focus on opportunities in compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy facilities, and other sustainable infrastructure initiatives.
Oil India Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is one of India’s leading integrated energy companies. With a strong presence across exploration, production, and transportation of oil and natural gas, the company has also been steadily strengthening its renewable and green energy portfolio. Through OGEL, Oil India is pursuing strategic investments in emerging clean energy segments that complement India’s long-term energy transition objectives.
Hindustan Waste Treatment brings extensive expertise in municipal solid waste-based bioenergy projects. The company has developed capabilities across project design, engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. It has successfully adapted and deployed advanced international technologies under Indian operating conditions and has demonstrated long-term operational excellence through a municipal solid waste-based biogas facility in North Goa that has been functioning successfully for more than a decade. Its parent company, SFC Environmental Technologies Limited, has built a strong reputation in wastewater treatment, water recycling, and environmental infrastructure solutions, contributing to sustainable resource management across multiple sectors.
The proposed joint venture will evaluate and develop projects in compressed biogas production, integrated waste-to-energy systems, and resource recovery infrastructure in suitable locations throughout India. By combining OGEL’s institutional strength, energy sector expertise, and project development capabilities with HWT’s technological know-how and operational experience, the partnership aims to create scalable and commercially viable solutions for sustainable waste management and clean energy generation.
The initiative is aligned with India’s broader objectives of reducing dependence on conventional fuels, enhancing domestic energy production, and promoting environmentally responsible infrastructure development. It is also expected to contribute to national priorities related to Atmanirbhar Bharat, greenhouse gas reduction, and efficient utilization of municipal and organic waste streams. With growing demand for renewable fuels and sustainable waste treatment solutions, the joint venture is positioned to play an important role in supporting India’s transition toward a cleaner, more resilient, and resource-efficient energy future.
