Telangana: Strict action will be taken against irregularities in paddy procurement

State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Commission Chairman N Kodanda Reddy has directed that paddy procurement must strictly follow the guidelines laid down by the government.

He clarified that once farmers sell their paddy at procurement centres, they are not required to visit rice mills. He warned that if any farmer is forced to go to mills, the concerned officials will be held accountable.

On Saturday, Kodanda Reddy, along with officials, inspected paddy procurement centers at Arjalabavi and SLBC Market Yard near the Nalgonda district headquarters. He examined the paddy stocks, moisture levels, quality parameters, and other related aspects at the centers.

Later, he held meetings with farmers, hamalis (load workers), procurement centre managers, and officials at both locations. He cautioned that no procurement should take place in violation of the official policy and that any harassment of farmers during procurement would not be tolerated. He emphasized that millers should have no role in the procurement process, which should remain strictly between the farmer and the procurement center authorities.
